Jennie Hindmarsh

Teacher of English

I graduated in English Language and Literature from the University of St Andrews and gained my PGCE from Cambridge University. My first teaching position was in a rural village in Kenya. It was a great challenge to work with limited resources and classes of up to 50 students. But it was also a privilege to be accepted into the community and to live as a local. The experience moulded me as a teacher, and I strive to bring the flexibility and inventiveness which I learnt there to all my classrooms.

Since then, I have taught in the UK, Turkey, Vietnam and Slovakia, gaining valuable experience in each place. I have taught a wide range of curricula, and worked with students of all levels of English, from beginner to native. My aim is to draw on this experience to tailor my lessons to students’ individual needs.

I see extra-curricular activities as being as important as formal lessons. For many years I have been running Model United Nations clubs, preparing students for international conferences. Watching my students stand up in front of large committees to confidently give speeches can be counted amongst my proudest moments.

Although Literature has always been my main passion, I also enjoy spending time outdoors and like to get out into nature on my bike as much as possible. On rainy days, my favourite pastime is wandering around art galleries. I am eager to explore the culture Prague has to offer.
