This year, Park Lane introduced the exciting Junior Duke Award programme, and it has been met with tremendous enthusiasm from EYFS and Primary children, with many eagerly registering to take part. The programme provides a unique opportunity for students from Reception to Year 6 to develop practical life skills, creativity, and independence through age-appropriate challenges. Upon registering, each child receives a Junior Duke Award booklet, filled with around 15 activities, from which they must complete at least 10 over the course of the academic year to earn their award. All activities are carried out at home under parental supervision, making it a wonderful way for families to connect and support their children’s growth outside the classroom.
The activities offered in the programme are as diverse as they are engaging, with options such as budgeting and cooking a family meal, repairing a bicycle puncture, lighting a fire outdoors, undertaking ecological projects, and exploring creative pursuits like drama or sports. With approximately 140 activities available across all age levels, there is something to inspire every child. The introduction of the Junior Duke Award has already become a highlight of the year at Park Lane, fostering excitement and dedication among students as they embrace new challenges and work towards their personal goals.
