From Saturday 8th to Wednesday 12th June, the Year 12 Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Gold students completed their Practice Adventurous Journey. This entailed four days of hiking across the Malá Fatra mountain range in Slovakia, carrying all food and equipment, camping, and navigating by map and compass. As well as navigation skills, students also had the opportunity to practice first aid (thanks to some great acting by Miss Abbott and Miss Nieffer), camp cooking and moving on steep ground at up to 1700 metres altitude, as well as team work. Students must be commended on maintaining a consistently positive attitude throughout some very challenging weather conditions. This trip serves as preparation for their Assessed Adventurous Journey in September.
