Primary School Assessment

The informal assessment, ideally and where possible, will be part of an assessment and
trial day in the class matching the pupil’s age and academic stage.

  • Pupils in enrolling from Year 1-6 will have an Induction and Taster Day in their correct age phase and class group. This day is arranged between the Parents/Carers and the School Registrar
  • The Induction and Taster Day gives the school the opportunity to test and make observations of each pupil to ensure that enrolment into the school is a happy and settled procedure
  • Reading, Writing, Mathematics and Spelling tests are given to the pupils to assess there is a good academic match to the abilities, teaching and learning we have in school
  • The school Class Teachers, the Curriculum and Assessment Coordinator and the Head of the EYFS and Primary School will decide if a pupil is accepted to join Park Lane International Primary School.

Secondary School Assessment

All applicants are expected to undergo a selection procedure which not only considers pupils’ abilities but also assesses their capacity to integrate successfully and contribute positively to the current student body. In this respect, we pay special attention to each applicant’s academic, extracurricular and disciplinary records and consider his/her current schooling and educational background.

Students wishing to register for our KS3 (Years 7, 8, 9), KS4 (Years 10, 11) or the IB diploma programme (IBDP) are required to take entrance exams, which consists of an online assessment and an English written test. As the second stage of our admission procedure, our secondary enrolment process also includes an interview with the Head of Secondary.

Our challenging selection process includes:

  • An online computer adaptive entrance assessment which helps us to identify the most able students and provide us with strong indications of each student’s academic potential. These standardised CEM tests are recognised internationally and are overseen by Cambridge University Press and Assessment.
  • The English proficiency test enables us to compare external candidates with our current students and will helps us to assess the level of English competency and any initial support needs for students whose English standard falls below age expectations.
  • The Czech test (Czech students only) helps us to compare external candidates with our current students and will help us to assess the level of Czech as a benchmark for further study. The entrance exam in Czech consists of a grammar and spelling test as well as of a shorter, continuous text production. The expected level of knowledge and skills is derived from the student’s equivalent year group in the Czech national curriculum.

Interview with our Admissions team
The interview assesses candidates’ potential to benefit from our teaching and learning approaches, and to manage successfully with the social and extracurricular aspects of school life. The interview (with parents) will last approximately 45 minutes.

Documents to be provided:

  • School reports/any certificates for last two years
  • Recommendation letter from the Head teacher
  • Motivation letter (only IGCSE and IB applicants, e.i. students 15+)
