Over the past fortnight, the children in Year 5 have enjoyed visiting Reception J, where they proudly shared their polar animal reports with the younger children, who are also learning about the polar regions. These non-chronological reports were created using The Write Stuff approach, where the Year 5 children applied specific lenses such as description, facts, and comparisons to structure their writing effectively. Inspired by their studies of naturalist Sir David Attenborough, the children delved deep into the fascinating world of polar bears, penguins, and seals, using his documentaries and insights to enhance their understanding of these incredible creatures and their icy habitats. The Reception children were captivated by the booklets, sparking questions that added to the learning experience for all.

As part of the afternoon’s activities, the Year 5 children and their Reception peers enjoyed a cosy treat of hot chocolate and biscuits, kindly prepared by Miss Julie and Mr Josh. Adding to the festive atmosphere, the Reception children recited a beautiful winter-themed Czech poem about penguins, bringing a cultural and poetic touch to the session. This heartwarming exchange of knowledge, creativity, and community spirit made for a lovely memorable afternoon, celebrating learning and collaboration between the two year groups.
