Examples of subject choices
A) The examples below are not exhaustive and represent the most typical routes students take. The IB DP coordinator and subject teachers are always ready to provide every student with advice on the subject composition.
Possible routes:
For the IB Diploma, a student must choose six subjects, one each from group 1 to 6. Three subjects must be chosen at Higher Level.
Example:
- Group 1
Czech A Literature HL or English A Language and literature HL - Group 2
French B SL - Group 3
History HL - Group 4
Physics SL - Group 5
Mathematics SL - Group 6
Visual arts HL
B) Students who are fluent in English and Czech may choose to take both languages as Language A in group 1 – these subjects will then count for groups 1 and 2. If they wish to take a 3rd language, this must be in place of a group 6 (Arts) subject.
Example:
- Group 1
Czech A Literature HL - Group 1
English A Language and Literature HL - Group 2
French B SL (or another subject from Group 3 or 4 instead) - Group 3
History HL - Group 4
Physics HL - Group 5

C) Students who do not wish to take a subject from group 6 (the Arts) can choose an additional subject from groups 1-4.
Example:
- Group 1
English A: Literature HL - Group 2
German B SL - Group 3
Economics SL - Group 4
Chemistry SL - Group 4
Biology HL - Group 5
